About Us
Our History

Knight Funeral Home was established in 1940 by Ralph M. Knight, Jr. when he purchased the Cabot Funeral Home at 38 Ascutney Street in Windsor, Vermont. In 1957, after acquiring land from the Kennedy family, a new facility was built on the scenic shores of Kennedy Pond, and the funeral home moved to its present location.
In 1964, Ralph Knight, Jr. extended services to White River Junction by acquiring the Powers Funeral Home on Gates Street. Both the Cabot Funeral Home in Windsor and Powers Funeral Home had been family-owned and operated for generations. Ralph was honored to continue this tradition of service to his community.
Ralph M. Knight, Jr. retired in 1980, passing the reins to his two sons, who became the second-generation owners of the funeral homes. Ralph M. "Morty" Knight, III ran the White River Junction location, while Russell C. Knight oversaw the Windsor location. In 1985, to better serve the community, the White River Junction facility moved to its current location at the former Dulac’s Garage site. Recognizing the growing need for local cremation services, the Knights built the first crematory in central and southern Vermont in 1987 at the White River Junction location.
In 2004, Jeff Knight, the son of Ralph M. "Morty" Knight, III, became the third-generation owner and operator of Knight Funeral Home. In 2016, he expanded the crematory and added a dedicated family room to enhance the cremation experience for families. Jeff and his team continue to uphold the Knight Funeral Home legacy of compassionate and professional service to the Upper Valley community.
