WINDSOR, VT
William "Wishy" White, 81, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Tuesday evening, July 10 at the Cedar Hill Healthcare Center in Windsor following a brief illness.
He was born October 31, 1930 in Windsor the son of Joseph and Mary (Davidovich) White. He received his schooling in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1948. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Windsor and served with the Vermont National Guard as a mess sergeant for five years. He married Beverly Miller in Windsor on September 12, 1953. Mr. White was a self employed insurance agent in Windsor for several years and later worked as a medic at the former Vermont State Prison. He was later employed as a cook, starting at the Sheraton North Country Inn in West Lebanon, the Stoughton House in Windsor, the Windsor School District, and the Windsor Men's Softball League and most recently at the John P. Larkin Country Club in Windsor where he also ran the Grandpa's League for several years.
"Wishy" was a longtime active member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor where he served as head usher and was a fourth degree member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Father Fontaine Council. He and his wife had prepared meals at the church for many years as a fund raiser. He served on the Windsor War Memorial Committee.
He greatly enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, golfing and watching sporting events. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Mrs. White passed away on November 29, 2006. He was also predeceased by one son, William J. "Billy" White on September 21, 1981, and by five brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include two sons, David V. White and his wife, Jane of Weathersfield, VT and Stephen J. White and his wife, Lynn of Hartland, two daughters, Debra A. Barone and her husband, Philip of Charlotte, VT and Lynn W. Ladue and her husband, Jeff of Hartland, five grandchildren, Matthew and Amanda Barone, Malori White, Billy Barrows and Jessica Wood, one sister, Annie LaBounty of Unity, NH, several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor on Friday evening, July 13 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 14 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor. The Rev. Raphael Nyabenda, Pastor, will be the Celebrant. Committal services with military honors will follow in the St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Windsor. A reception for family and friends will follow back at the church hall.
