Obituary

New Providence, NJ – William Nussear Stevenson Pugh, Jr., 85, passed on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care in Lebanon, NH. William was born on March 3, 1939, in Baltimore, MD to parents William Nussear Stevenson and Martha Taber Pugh.  He resided in Lutherville, MD and Oxford, MD prior to moving to New Providence, NJ. William came to Camp Norway on Lake Fairlee, Vermont in 1952, a place that became an essential part of his life. It was there he met his wife, Jerianne, at a camp dance and the two owned and operated the same summer camp he attended as a child for more than 22 years. It is where he enjoyed his final weeks surrounded by his beloved family in a place truly special to all of them.

William obtained his bachelor's degree in education from the University of Maryland and was a member of their 1959 National Champion lacrosse team. He was a physical education teacher and coach for several years prior to running and directing Camp Norway in Post Mills, VT with his wife Jerianne. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed antiquing and collecting decoys, and boating on the Chesapeake Bay.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years Jerianne B. Pugh; daughter Sara Burnet and husband James; four grandchildren William Pugh, , IV, James Burnet, V, Lisa Pugh, and Paige Burnet.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son William N. S. Pugh, III.

A private celebration of William's life will be held at the family camp on Lake Fairlee.
