Post Mills, VT – William Robert Quigel, 97, died on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in Lebanon, NH.
Bill was born in South Williamsport, PA on April 17, 1929, the son of Melvin O. and Helen M. Quigel. He graduated from Williamsport, PA High School in 1947 and immediately started working for the National Biscuit Company as a billing clerk at the Williamsport sales branch, eventually progressing to assistant office manager. After serving two years in the Armed Services, he returned to Nabisco in the same role and married the love of his life, a pretty redhead who also happened to be the daughter of the sales branch manager, by the name of Arlene M. Larson.
The newlywed couple moved a lot during his early career: three months later to Decatur, IL as sales branch manager, approximately 1 ½ months later to the Columbus, OH, and 1 ½ months later to Baltimore, MD. Each move was to a larger office, with Baltimore being the largest in the company. Only six months later, he accepted a transfer to the Philadelphia, PA Divisional Accounting Office at Section Supervisor. The next move was to the Auditing Department of Nabisco’s World Headquarters in New York, where he served 5 years auditing bakeries and sales branches in the south, mid-Atlantic, and New England states. Then he was appointed assistant office manager of the Fairlawn, NJ bakery. After 3 years, he was transferred to the Philadelphia Bakery as office manager where he spent the final 16 years of his 40-year career with Nabisco. After his retirement in 1985, he spent 21 years working part time for Blue Ribbon Vending Company in Philadelphia and Jenkintown, PA handling their insurance and employee benefits.
Bill’s hobbies were model railroading, ceramics, and traveling. With Arlene, they traveled extensively throughout the continental US, Hawaii, and Alaska, Bermuda, Caribbean, Costa Rica, Canada, Fiji, Australia, and New Zealand. In 2015, Bill and Arlene sold their home in Hatboro, PA and moved to Post Mills, VT to live with their daughter Christine. A lovely apartment was added to her home where they were the beneficiaries of excellent love and care.
Bill was predeceased by his wife, Arlene, three brothers, Edward, Ernest, and Raymond, and two sisters, Alice and Dorothy.
He is survived by a daughter, Christine and a son, Steven, also five grandsons and two great grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Resurrection Lutheran Church, 620 Welsh Road, Horsham, PA 19044.
