William J. Malcolm, 89, died Sunday evening, June 29, 2014 at the Brookside Nursing Home in White River Junction, VT.

He was born March 31, 1925 in Milton, MA, the son of Clarence and Helen (Doyle) Malcolm. He graduated from high school in Fairfield, CT, then enlisted in the Army where he served as a medic in Germany, during WWII. Upon his return to the States in 1946 he founded an insurance company, the Malcolm Agency, Inc, which he ran as owner and president for over fifty years. After his retirement he moved to the Upper Valley, serving as president of the Resident Council at Brookside Nursing Home.

William loved to garden and was a great musician. He played the banjo, harmonica, trumpet and guitar and enjoyed playing Dixieland.

He is predeceased by a brother, Thomas Malcolm, and a sister, Mary O'Donovan.

He is survived by two daughters, Ruth M. Hebert of Essex Junction, VT and D'Arcy M. Causey of South Carolina; four grandsons, William J. Malcolm II, Britton D. Johnson, Dalton J. Saddler, and Garrian J. Saddler; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eileen Powers of Florida.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon, Thursday, July 3 at St Anthony's Church in White River Junction. Interment will be in the Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport, CT at a later date. Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Activity Fund at Brookside Nursing Home, 1200 Christian Street, White River Junction, 05001.
