WINDSOR, VT
William Quarforth Lathrop, 78, a resident of Windsor, VT, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH from medical complications. He was born on June 9, 1939 in Nashua, NH the son of Alice V. (Quarforth) Lathrop and William George Lathrop. Bill attended and graduated from Mt. Hermon School in Northfield, VT; then Norwich University, where he majored in English and enjoyed singing with several choral groups and choirs, also acting in many theatrical productions. He was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving as a Captain while stationed at Fort Ord in California. Following his honorable discharge, he resided in California with his first wife. They were later divorced. He eventually moved to Wellesley, MA where he built his career becoming Assistant Vice President of Property Investments at Sun Life of Canada, where he met his current wife, Marion.
Bill had many hobbies, including a strong sense and love for the arts, music, photography, painting in all mediums, fishing and canoeing. He was also an avid reader. He had a strong love for the outdoors, including gardening and landscaping. He enjoyed taking his four children hiking on parts of the Appalachian Trail while vacationing on Lake Fairlee in Vermont. They also enjoyed touring the many coastal communities in Maine. He and his wife enjoyed spending long days at Niles Beach in Gloucester, MA where he enjoyed reading while wading in the ocean. Bill was also fond of beach combing and finding hidden treasures which included buoys, driftwood, sea glass and seashells.
Bill and Marion recently settled into their dream home, a bucolic property in Windsor, VT, while their time in Windsor may have been brief, their children are very grateful for their parent's experience and togetherness while in Vermont.
He is survived by his loving wife of forty one years, Marion Lathrop, his daughters Victoria Esquiro and her husband, George of Washington State; Joy Von Thaer and her husband, Jack of Alaska; step-son Robert Ravagni of Georgia; step-daughter Michelle Andersen of California; his grandchildren Isabella, Victoria, Ashley and Anna, who will all miss their Papa.
He was predeceased by his parents and his in-laws, Domenic "Del" and Edna Moreno of Somerville, MA. They were very inspirational people and he adored them.
At his request private services will be held at the convenience of his family.
