Enfield Center, NH - William H. Sweet, 83, former resident of the Jericho District in Norwich, VT died Wednesday, October 21 at Valley Terrace in Wilder, VT.

Bill was born November 20, 1931 in Keene, NH son of George and Helen (Halpin) Sweet. He attended the University of New Hampshire where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho and earned a degree as an engineer with the Class of 1954. After college he entered the US Army where he worked in the missile program and was stationed in Germany for three years. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Bill married Suzanne Wilson on May 18, 1957. Bill started his engineering career in Contoocook, NH which included jobs in PA, MA, Keene, NH (MPB) after which being transferred to the Upper Valley in 1973 at Split Ball Bearing in Lebanon, NH, from which he retired. Bill and Sue made their home on Joshua Road in the Jericho District of Norwich, VT for many years before moving to Enfield Center in 2003.

Bill was active in the community including his membership in the Upper Valley Investment Club (UVIC), the Jericho Community Club where he served as president, secretary and treasurer. He helped start several programs, including Christmas Caroling and Sugar-on-Snow gatherings in local sugar houses. He was also a communicant of St. Barnabas Church in Norwich and, after moving to Enfield Center, was a member of the Union Church. He served as co-treasurer at both churches and also taught Sunday School and many youth classes.

Bill was passionate about his Pick Your Own (PYO) Blueberry Orchard at their home on Joshua Road, and continued operating it even after moving to Enfield Center. He also enjoyed alpine and cross country skiing as well as hiking and reading.

Bill was predeceased by his son, Mark, in 1975.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne; two daughters Joni Sweet of Salt Lake City, UT and Gay Seidl and her husband Art of Deerbrook, WI; five grandchildren Ann Marie Chrudimsky and husband Adam, Jennifer Abrahamzon and husband Jason, Liz Marien and husband Al, Diane Seidl and Mark Seidl; a great grandson Samuel Abrahamzon; a brother Edward Sweet of San Diego, CA; a sister Alice Birch and husband Warren of Alburtis, PA as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held Monday October 26th from 6-8 PM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. A funeral service will be held Tuesday October 27th 11:00 a.m. at the Union Church of Enfield Center on Route 4A in Enfield Center. A private committal with his son will be held at a later date.
