North Hartland, VT – William Jay Bement, 70, died Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
Jay was born October 3, 1953, in Lebanon, NH, a son of William Russell and Vivian (Babbie) Bement. He graduated from Hartford High School in 1971 and went on to pursue a degree in Biology from the University of Vermont, graduating in 1975. Jay was married to Linda Smith in 1978. He took a research position at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in White River Junction where he worked until retiring as the Director of the Animal Lab in 2003.
Jay was a devote member and lector at St. Anthony's Church in White River Junction. In his younger years, he was an accomplished competitive shooter. He enjoyed making homemade wine, gardening, cooking family meals and grilling on the back porch.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Bement.
Jay is survived by a son, Jason Bement of North Hartland; a daughter, Jenna Thompson and her husband, Christopher and their children, Ryan and Vivian of Plattsburg, NY.
Visiting hours will be held 4-6pm on Thursday, January 25 at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction, VT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11am Friday at St. Anthony's Church. Condolences may be expressed to Jay's family in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhomes.com.
