White River Jct., VT – Wesley R. Hazelton, Sr., 90, died Monday August 29, 2016 at Hanover Terrace Healthcare in Hanover, NH.
He was born June 8, 1926 in Hanover, NH a son of Albert and Hazel (Hatch) Hazelton. Wes grew up in West Lebanon and graduated from West Lebanon High School before serving with the US Army Air Corps during World War II. After returning home from his military service he met the love of his life, Constance Kenney, while on vacation in the White Mountains. They were married January 30, 1949 in Wolfeboro, NH and spent the next 64 years devoted to one another until her death in 2013. They made their home in West Lebanon and Plainfield, NH for a time before purchasing a home on the Jericho Road in Hartford in 1960, where they raised their family.
Wes began his career with the Town of Hartford shortly after returning from the war. He served as Superintendent of the water and sewer department for many years and for a time also served as Road Commissioner. He retired in 1988 after 44 years of dedicated service.
He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed spending time with his family in the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, was an avid fisherman played in several horseshoe leagues and in his younger years played men's league softball. He particularly enjoyed spending time at the family's camp on Lake Willoughby where he served as Grand Marshall of the 4th of July boat parade. He also served as Grand Marshall of the West Lebanon Alumni Parade in recent years.
Wes is survived by his children, Wesley Hazelton Jr. of Gray, ME, Thomas Hazelton of White River Jct., Pamela Dupuis of South Royalton, VT and Andrew Hazelton of Grove City, PA as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law Maurice Place of Lebanon, NH and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Constance, an infant son, Albert "Buzzy" Hazelton, a son Jeffrey Hazelton, brothers Walter, Bruce and Reneford Hazelton and sisters Marion Durell, Priscilla King and Beverly Place.
A visitation will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT Friday September 9th from 6-8PM. A funeral will be held at the Greater Hartford United Church of Christ on Saturday September 10th at 10AM. Burial will be in the West Lebanon Cemetery
