White River Jct., VT - Wendall T. Mayette, 86, died Sunday April 22nd at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
Born June 30, 1925 in Wilder, VT the son of George Joseph and Alice Mary (Locke) Mayette, he grew up in Wilder and attended Hartford High School. Although Wendall began serving with the US Navy in World War II before receiving his high school diploma, he received an honorary diploma from Hartford in 2009. His Naval service, from June of 1943 until his discharge on the Fourth of July 1946, was spent mostly in the Pacific Theatre where the ships he was aboard crossed both the Equator and the International Date Line.
Mr. Mayette returned to the Upper Valley after the war and was married to Antoinette Romano in White River Jct. September 4, 1948. He worked for a time at Swift and Co. and then for many years as a salesman at Shepard Supply both in White River Jct. He finished his working career at Profile Skiwear in West Lebanon.
Wendall was a member of St. Anthony's Church in White River Jct. all of his life. He was also a life member of the Hartford Lodge B.P.O.Elks #1541; the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 2571 and the American Legion Post 26 both in White River Jct.
In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and more recently enjoyed yard sales. Most of all he enjoyed family time especially time with his granddaughter who he affectionately called the Yellow Rose of Texas after she was adopted from San Antonio Texas in 1993.
Wendall was predeceased by his wife, Antoinette; his father George Mayette; his mother Alice Peach; two sisters Catherine Stevens and Lillian Mayette and two brothers Raymond Mayette and Harold Mayette.
He is survived by his daughter Mary Mayette and her husband Harold Trombley of White River Jct.; granddaughter Sonia Mary Trombley; two step grandchildren Jody Freeman-Gaffney and Shayne Trombley; two step great-grandchildren Lyndsey and Nicole as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. Friday from 6-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Church Saturday April 28th at 11AM.
