South Reading, VT – Wayne Douglas Sherer, formerly of Rutland, VT, died on Sunday, April 9, 2023, unexpectedly at age 60. He was born in Windsor, VT on May 1, 1962, to Hollis N. Sherer and Shirley L. (Vittum) Sherer.  Wayne, ever the optimist, found happiness in whatever circumstances arose or wherever he was. He loved to spend time with his family: fishing, camping, and hiking all over the state, but they formed many fond memories on Lake Champlain and the family land in South Reading.  He was fond of turkey and deer hunting, naming his daughter for his favorite hunting season: Autumn. He was always ready to help his children with woodworking projects and kept everyone well stocked with vegetables from his vast garden each summer and fall.

He is survived by his wife Shannon L. Sherer of Rutland; three children Laura Syria of Bellows Falls, VT, Travis Sherer of Barre, VT, and Autumn Sherer and fiancé Shyheim Ecklin of Rutland; one sister Connie Ruggles and husband Brent of Pittston, ME; his stepfather Fred Cook of South Reading; three grandchildren (and one more expected soon), aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Hollis N. Sherer and mother Shirley L. Cook.

Private services will be held at the convenience of his family.
