Obituary

Warren C. Biebel Jr., 96, died Friday August 23, 2024 at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative Care in Lebanon, NH.  Warren  was born May 18, 1928, in Bridgeport, Connecticut the only child of Warren C. Biebel Sr. and Mary (Jones) Biebel.  After graduating from Bassick High School, he attended King's College in Wilmington, Delaware for two years and then transferred to Gordon College in Massachusetts.  After graduating from Gordon, he attended Gordon Conwell Seminary in Wenham, Massachusetts for two years.  In 1949, he married Marian Miller.  They raised four children: Dave, Dan, Paul, and Judy.  They celebrated their 75th anniversary earlier this year.  In 2023, at age 95, Warren was presented with the Boston Cane by the officials of the town of Plainfield for being its oldest citizen.

Warren felt challenged by the Billy Graham Crusade in Boston in 1950 to get started in ministry, so at the Seminary, he put his name on a list to be available to speak at youth rallies and church services.  He was invited to speak at a "Youth for Christ" rally in Claremont, New Hampshire.  After the host group asked him to come speak again, he was informed that the group was looking to form a new church.  He accepted the job and under his guidance, Calvary Baptist Church was organized.  During his years at Calvary Baptist Church, he became quite interested in Christian retreats and camps for church organizations.  He became friends with the owners of Seminole Point Lodge on Lake Sunapee and helped them organize retreat programs at their facility.  After eight years in Claremont, he became the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Windsor, Vermont, (now known as Trinity Evangelical Free Church).  While there, he ran a thriving youth program.  Along with pastoring at the time, he also served as a part-time Chaplain at the Vermont State Prison, as well as at the Veterans Hospital in White River Junction, Vermont.

After thirteen years in Windsor, Warren became the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Meriden, New Hampshire.  While there, a couple donated land for Warren to pursue the dream of running a camp and retreat center.  He gathered a Board of Directors, and Singing Hills Christian Camp and Conference Center was organized in 1972.  For the next twenty years they developed Singing Hills from 135 acres of overgrown pastures and woods, into one of the larger conference centers in New England.

After 20 years at Singing Hills, Warren and Marian moved to Florida where they both helped serve in many churches.  While in Florida, Warren also wrote and published four books.

Eleven years ago, they returned to Plainfield and built a home with their daughter Judy and her husband Don Jordan.  Warren kept writing, including a published autobiography titled, "My Wonderful Journey Through Life with God, Family, and Friends."

Warren was predeceased by his parents, his oldest son Dave, Paul's wife Kathie (Bartlett) Biebel, a grandson Jonathan, and three great grandchildren.  He leaves his wife Marian, his son Dan and wife Cheri (Spackman), his son Paul, Judy, and son-in-law Don Jordan.  He leaves twelve grandchildren as well as twenty-three great grandchildren.

There will be a funeral reception and Memorial service on Sunday, September 8th at Singing Hills Christian Camp and Conference Center in Plainfield, New Hampshire at 3:00pm.  In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Singing Hills, 71 King Drive, Plainfield, NH  03781.
