Westminster, VT – Walter Barclay Kentfield, 97, died Wednesday, December 30, at the Springfield Hospital in Springfield, VT. He was born February 26, 1923 in North Dartmouth, MA the son of John T.and Mary (Cope) Kentfield.
He grew up in Amherst, MA. He married Loretta Leigh of Boston, MA on June 17, 1950 in Boston, MA. He was a skilled carpenter. His beloved wife died in 2011.
Walt moved to Westminster, VT to live with his son and daughter-in-law, John and Diana Kentfield in 2018.He was a faithful Christian and a great man of faith, a father, husband and friend. Walt was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing, wildlife, nature, birdwatching and canoeing. Generally just being outdoors! In his later years he enjoyed gardening and photography as well as tracking the weather.
Walt was predeceased by his wife who died March 5, 2011 as well as his brother, Theodore Kentfield of Amherst, MA. He is survived by two sons, John Kentfield and his wife, Diana of Westminster, VT, James Kentfield and his wife, Linda of Windsor, VT; two daughters, Loretta Kentfield of Rutland, VT and Mary Jane Erwin and her husband James Steven Erwin of Unicoi, TN, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The service will be held at a later date. The Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, VT has been entrusted with arrangements.
