Obituary

Wilder, VT – Wallace Shippee, 82, died Friday April 13, 2018 at home in Wilder.

He was born October 15, 1935 in Chesterfield, NH a son of Wallace and Beulah (Egar) Shippee.  Wally grew up on a farm and attended Thetford Academy.  He worked construction and later started his own construction and asphalt paving business. Later in life Wally operated cranes for various bridge building companies working on projects including the Ledyard Bridge and the South Royalton Bridge.   He was married to Teresa (Tobin) Aher January 24, 1980 in Honolulu, HI and they made their home in Sharon where they owned and operated the Half Acre Motel.  After Hurricane Irene destroyed their home in 2011 they moved to Wilder where they have lived with Teresa's daughter, Deb, since.

Wally and Teresa spent many hours in their motor home including trips to Alaska, time in Key Largo in the Florida Keys and many winters in Homosassa, FL.  He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed deep sea fishing,  hunting in Island Pond, VT and several trips to Colorado hunting mule deer and elk.

Wally had an outgoing personality and made friends wherever he went.  He was a life member of the Hartford Elks and the Masonic Lodge in Post Mills.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa, of Wilder; daughters Gail Kill of Orono, ME, Cynthia Hardy  and her husband Jerry of Essex Jct., VT, Terry Wojcik and her husband James of White River Jct.; Debra Clifford of Wilder and Daryl Laware and her husband Douglas of West Lebanon; sons John E. Aher and his wife Doreen of Hartford and Gerald Aher and his wife Sharla of Hartland as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by a son-in-law Wayne Clifford in 2010.

A celebration of Wally's life will be held Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Hotel Coolidge in White River Junction, VT from 1-4PM.  Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction assisted with arrangements.
