North Hartland

Vivian Babbie Bement died Thursday evening at her home in North Hartland, Vermont, attended by her son and grandson who cared for her during her last illness.

Vivian was born to Alfred and Hazel (Rushlow) Babbie on Sept 27, 1924 in Mooers NY, the 3rd of seven children. The family subsequently moved to Champlain NY where she
and her siblings spent their childhood. Vivian graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Rouses Point NY in 1942. She attended
nursing school at Champlain Valley Hospital (now Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital)in Plattsburgh NY, graduating as a Registered Nurse. She also worked in Malone NY before moving
to White River Jct. Vermont in the late 40's to take a nursing position with the Veteran's Administration Hospital. While working at the VA hospital she met her future husband, William Russell Bement. They were married February 3rd 1951 in her home town of Champlain NY, returning to live with her in-laws
in North Hartland Vermont. They had one child, William Jay Bement, born in 1953. The family was later blessed with two grandchildren, Jenna and Jason, born to William Jay and Linda (Smith) Bement. Vivian was well-liked and respected by her patients and co-workers at the VA hospital. She was a hard worker and very conscientious in the performance of her duties. She finished her 33 year career serving as Infection Control coordinator. After her retirement Vivian continued to nurse her family, especially those needing end of life care.
She was an active and faithful communicant at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in White River Jct. VT for over 46 years.
She helped at community club events in town and served with the American Legion Auxiliary, of Legion Post 48 Hartland VT.
Vivian was predeceased by her William, her husband of 57 years; by brothers: Alfred "Sonny" Babbie Jr.
of Champlain, Gerald Babbie of Plattsburgh NY and James Babbie of Keeseville NY and sisters Irene Roberts of Massena NY
and Lila Styles on Champlain NY.
She is survived by her son William Jay, her grandchildren Jenna Bement Thompson and Jason Bement, her sister, Agatha Dubois
of Perry's Mills NY, her brother Wendell Babbie of Candler, North Carolina and numerous nieces and nephews and their children. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday July 5 at 10 Am at St Anthony's Church in White River Junction.

Those wishing to pay respects and extend condolences are invited to join the family at Knights Funeral Home in White River Junction on Saturday from 9-9:30am before the service.
Committal will be on Monday, July 7 at 11:30am in the village cemetery in Hartland VT.

Those wishing to honor Vivian's memory are encouraged to make a donation in her memory to their favorite charity. The Bement family extends our heart-felt thanks to the wonderful people from Bayada Healthcare who guided us through Vivian's last journey.
