Obituary

WINDSOR, VT

Virginia W. Ide, 82, a former resident of Hartland, passed away Monday, April 16 at the Cedar Hill Health Care Center in Windsor.

She was born October 1, 1935 in Hartland, VT the daughter of Millard T. and Marion (Lobdell) White. She received her schooling in Hartland and Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1953. She married James T. Ide on November 27, 1953.

She was employed by the Vermont Department of Corrections in several capacities, ending her career working as a probation officer. She retired in 1994. Virginia had a lifelong interest in politics and music and was a voracious reader. She also enjoyed sharing poems and short stories with her family and friends and had a passion for writing. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and enjoying their accomplishments. She held her son-in-law, Sheldon Zeikel in a special place in her heart, as he spent many years in his retirement caring for her at her home.

She was predeceased her parents, an infant son, Brian James Ide, one brother, Philip White and one sister, Marion "Jean" Rugg.

Survivors include her husband, James T. Ide of West Lebanon, NH,  five daughters, Mary Zeikel and her husband, Sheldon of Milton, DE,  Janet Koes and her husband, William of South Strafford, VT, Judith Ide and her husband, Peter Grondin of Newport, VT, Alison Ide-Smith  and her husband, William of Torrington, CT and Patience Tingley of Box Elder, SD, four brothers, Thomas White, Richard White, Robert White and Paul White, all of Hartland, VT, two sisters, Mary Davis of Windsor and Nancy Dow of Hartland, seven granddaughters, one grandson, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 20 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. Committal services will be held at a later date in the Hartland Village Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Hill Health Care Activities Fund at 49 Cedar Hill Drive, Windsor, VT 05089.
