White River Jct., VT – Vernona S. Bell, 83, died Saturday, May 4, 2024, at home with her family.

She was born October 19, 1940, a daughter of Victor and Vernona (Heck) Wallace in the Bronx borough of New York City. Vernona attended Haverhill Academy in Haverhill, NH and later graduated from high school in Burlington, VT. She was married to Harold Bell on January 31, 1959, and they settled in his hometown of White River Jct. where they raised their two sons and lived the rest of their lives.

Vernona worked at Shopping International in Norwich until they closed. She then began her career at the Dartmouth National Bank as a teller in the proof department and worked her way to head teller. She retired from the bank in 1987 as coordinator of the ATM department.

She enjoyed traveling, camping, and hunting with her family. Family was the center of Vernona's life and everything she did revolved around it.

Vernona was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and a lifetime member of the Hartford Rod and Gun Club.

She was predeceased by her husband Harold, a sister Dale E. Smith, and a grandson Seth Bell.

She is survived by two sons Chad and his wife Karol of White River Jct. and Brad and his wife Cathy of Fairlee, VT; one sister Lynda Wallace and her husband Jim of Duluth, GA; sister-in-law Gerry Brown of Wilder, VT; grandchildren Troy, Justin, and Luke, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 1pm on Thursday, July 11th, 2024 in the Vermont Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, VT,  followed by a celebration of life at the V.F.W. in White River Jct.
