VERLIE (ROMANO) BURNS
White River Jct., VT - Verlie (Romano) Burns, 87, passed away at her home on April 3rd, 2012 in the company of her family.
Verlie was born on September 15, 1924 in White River Junction, VT to Anthony (Tony) Romano and Dicea (Willey) Romano. She attended schools in Hartford, VT and went on to Cosmetology School.
Verlie lived and worked in White River Junction all of her life. She married Joseph Libbey in 1943. They divorced in 1965, but remained friends. She was a hairdresser and when her father opened his store, Tony's News, he asked her to work for him. She worked there for many years, even staying on after her father sold the business. She also worked at Howard Johnson's Restaurant, Ken's Country Store, and Mary Hitchcock Hospital.
Verlie loved spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed talking, walking, and working in her flower garden. She was warm, compassionate, and a friend to everyone she met. Verlie will be truly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Verlie was predeceased by her parents, a daughter, Cheryl Darlene, her ex-husband Joseph Libbey, a brother, Anthony (Buddy) Romano, and her sister, Barbara Murphy.
She is survived by sons Donald Libbey and wife Bonita, William Romano and wife Sherri; daughters Deborah Brown, and Pamela Libbey and husband Charles Fredette; sister-in-law Rose Marie Romano; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by life-long friends, Alphonso (Fonzo) and Helen Orrizonto.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Church in White River Jct., Thursday at 10 AM. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and Mass cards, the family requests donations be made to Visiting Nurse & Hospice of VT and NH, 66 Benning St., Suite 6, West Lebanon, NH 03784-3407.
