Velma M. Sprague, 96, died Friday April 9, 2021 at Hanover Terrace Healthcare in Hanover, NH, where she has been a resident for the past several years.

She was born August 17, 1924 in East Randolph, Vt, the daughter of Benoni and Lillian Brigham Sprague.   Velma attended schools in St Albans, graduating from Bellows Free Academy in 1946. After high school, she attended the Thompson School of Nursing in Brattleboro, graduating August 5, 1947.

Velma worked for many years at the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, The Vermont Baptist Home, and The Stoughton Home in Windsor before she retired in 1974.  Since retirement she has lived in White River Jct. with her sister Pat.

She was a former member of the National Grange, DAR, Rebekah Fidelity Lodge, and DAC where she held several offices. She was an active member of the White River Junction United Methodist church including volunteering as a lay speaker, chairman of the Staff Parish Relations Committee and the worship committee. Velma loved to decorate the church with flowers any time of year.

She is survived by her sister, Patricia Sprague of White River Jct.; sister-in-law, Margaret Sprague of Mohall ND; nephew, William Sprague of Woodstock and cousin, Richard Brigham of Framingham, MA. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Paul Sprague and nephew Peter Sprague.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staffs of Hanover Terrace and Bayada Hospice for all the loving care they gave Velma.

A graveside service will be held in the Hartford Cemetery at 1pm on Thursday April 15th.
