North Pomfret, VT-04Thomas Rothfuss, 84, a Navy veteran and former New York City Police officer, peacefully passed away early Thursday morning, June 27, at his home in North Pomfret, VT. He was born December 4, 1939 in New York City, NY, the son of Wilbur and Vivian (Hegal) Rothfuss.
Thomas grew up in the city and graduated from high school before enlisting in the US Navy in 1958, where he proudly served until 1962. During his service, he married the love of his life, Alberta "Bonnie" LaMancusa. Following an honorable discharge, Thomas began his career with the New York City Police Department.
Determined to advance his education while serving in law enforcement, Thomas attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice and later the New York Institute of Technology, earning Bachelor of Science degrees in both Criminal Justice and Behavioral Science. He and Bonnie settled in Brooklyn, New York, and had four children before relocating to North Pomfret, VT, in 1975.
Thomas briefly worked as a security officer at the Woodstock Inn before finding his niche at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction, VT. There, he embarked on a career that spanned over twenty-six years, climbing the ranks to become a Medical Administration Specialist, also known as an Administrator for the Day (AOD). He retired from the VA Hospital at the age of 64, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated service and professionalism.
Tom enjoyed golfing with his wife in Poland Springs, Maine a location they regularly visited throughout the years. He loved watching, listening and reading any good mystery story, found great pleasure in playing "Scratch tickets" and always remained inquisitive about how things worked.
Thomas Rothfuss will be remembered fondly for his commitment to his country, his community, and his family. Tom was predeceased by his brothers, Raymond Rothfuss and Edward Rothfuss, and sisters, Helene Rothfuss and Carol Siegert.
He is survived by his beloved wife Bonnie of sixty-three years, daughter Robbie Losinski and her husband Ed from Idalou, Texas, sons Tom Rothfuss and his wife, Dee of Portland, ME, Tim Rothfuss of West Lebanon, NH, and Chris Rothfuss and his wife, Becky of Stratham, NH, seven grandchildren, Ben, Olivia, Audrey, Evan, Cameron, Alyssa, and Cooper, three great grandchildren, Jace, Jett and Paul, eight adopted grandchildren, four sisters, Rita Rothfuss of Hoboken, NJ, Ethel Block of Keansburg, NJ, Jesse Davis of Holmden, NJ, Frances Craven of Hoboken, NJ, many nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends and colleagues whose lives he touched throughout his years.
Calling hours will be held, Tuesday afternoon, July 2, from 3-5PM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, July 3, at 1PM at St. Anthony's Church with burial to follow in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in White River Jct., VT.
