Lyman
August 6, 1954 – April 4, 2020
West Hartford, VT- Thomas D. Lyman, 65, died peacefully at home with his family on Saturday evening, April 4, 2020.
He was born August 6, 1954 in Lebanon, NH a son of Norman and Winona (LaRock) Lyman. Tom grew up in the Jericho District of Hartford and graduated from Hartford High School. He worked briefly at Renehan-Akers in White River Jct. before beginning his career with the Hartford Police Department. He joined the force in 1975 and took great pride in serving the town for over forty years, retiring in 2017. Tom was married to the love of his life, Sara Davis, June 8, 1985 in Hartland. Shortly after they built their home on Wildlife Road in West Hartford, on a portion of land originally part of his grandfather's Breezy Hill Farm.
Tom's greatest joy came from his children and grandchildren. Through his work he often witnessed all that could go wrong. He took great pride in his children's desire to follow their dreams and strong work ethics. Tom took great pleasure watching his son start his own successful Maple Sugaring business from the ground up. Though allergic and afraid of horses, he was amazed by what his daughter accomplished pursuing her deep love for horses and making it her career. Tom found a new love for life when his grandchildren were born. He was able to take his oldest granddaughter fishing several times before he fell ill. He would beam with pride and loved to show pictures and tell stories about them to anyone that would listen.
He enjoyed following New England sports teams, especially the Red Sox and Patriots . He was a loyal fan and would jump at any opportunity to go to Fenway Park. He also enjoyed deer season when he could relax in the quiet woods and reminisce about years gone by. Tom would often drive to Maine for Blood's seafood to pick up fresh lobsters and clams, which were not only a treat for him but a staple of his diet. He loved the ocean and seacoast. Tom also developed a love for flying. He enjoyed time at the grill and spent many hours mowing his lawn, making his backyard look like Fenway Park. Most of all he loved being at home with his wife, knowing that his kids were safe and happy.
He is survived by his wife, Sara, of West Hartford; children Kylie Lyman and partner Randall Weidner of Reddick, FL and Kristopher Lyman and wife Brooke of White River Jct.; grandchildren Emily, Charlie and Maverick; brothers, Dale Lyman and wife Annette of White River Jct., Stephen Lyman and wife Colleen of Hartland; sisters, Beverly Pallmerine of White River Jct., Jeannie Frazer and husband Larry of Hartland and Kathleen Erskine and husband Sedric of Windsor.
