WINDSOR, VT
Thomas C. Johnson, 72, a former longtime resident of Windsor, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, December 1 at the Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, VT.
He was born March 19, 1943 in Windsor the son of Charles H. and Alice (Baril) Johnson. He received his schooling in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1961. He graduated from the University of Vermont in 1965 with a degree in Political Science and received his Masters of Business Administration from Suffolk University in Boston in 1970. After working in Boston for a short time he returned to Windsor where he married Janice Sprague on February 15, 1975. He was employed at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor from 1972 until 1980, when he and Janice briefly ran a retail business uniform shop and Christian Bookstore in West Lebanon, and supplied Christian Books and knitted goods to local businesses. He also worked for a CPA in Wilder, Vermont, and provided private tax accounting services. He most recently was employed as business manager for the Historic Homes of Runnemede until his retirement in 2006.
Tom served as both a deacon and an elder with the Trinity Evangelical Free Church of Windsor and was most recently a member of the Christ Community Church in Plainfield, NH. He was active as an adult volunteer leader with the Windsor Boy Scout Troop #218, having been a boy scout himself in his youth. He was fond of trout fishing, playing golf and hiking in the outdoors. Even with the physical limitations imposed on him the last few years he still enjoyed life to the fullest. This past summer he spent time with his grandchildren in Alaska and was able to enjoy Denali National Park and explore the wilds within the Arctic Circle.
His wife Janice passed away on May 27, 2014. He was also predeceased by his parents.
Survivors include one daughter, Rebecca J. Johnson of Springfield, NH, two sons, James A. Johnson and his wife, Katarzyna of Fairbanks, Alaska and Mark T. Johnson of Braintree, VT, two grandchildren, Ethan and Kaylee Johnson of Fairbanks, two sisters, Kathy Whitcomb of Windsor and Beverly Kiniry of Hamburg, NY, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, December 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 10 at 10:00 AM at the Christ Community Church in Plainfield, NH with Pastor Allen Burns, officiating. A reception will follow at the church for family and friends who wish to stay and celebrate Thomas' life and share their favorite memories. Committal services will follow at 2:00 PM in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor.
