Obituary

Wilder, VT- Thomas H. Henck, 63, died Monday, April 29, 2019 with his family beside him at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care at DHMC. Tom fought with determination to be here in order to enjoy time with his sons and grandchildren, which were his pride and joy. Thanks to Bayada's visiting nurses, modern medicine, and his own medical background Tom enjoyed years of bonus time with his family and friends. His final weeks were spent with the incredible care and comfort provided by the Jack Byrne Center.

Tom was born February 26, 1956 in Bay Shore, NY to Thomas E. Henck and Harriet (Ammon) Henck. Tom grew up in Sayville NY. After graduating from High School (class of 1974) and working in various fields he then went on to join the Air Force. In the Air Force he served as a firefighter and started to work with the rescue squad. After being honorably discharged in 1980 he worked in Rochester NH in their rescue department. It was there that he decided to pursue working in the medical field. He continued his education at George Washington University to become a Physician Assistant. After graduation he moved to Connecticut and worked at Norwalk Hospital's surgical department, then Bridgeport Hospital's neurological surgery department. He really loved helping his patients. Later, with his young family, he decided to move up to Vermont and worked at White River Junction VA Medical Center until retiring.

Tom was passionate about a lot of different sciences; he always enjoyed his time to read, learn, and to think out ideas. He enjoyed adventures, hiking, camping, traveling, good science fiction, Star Wars, Batman, and all things STEM!

Tom never wanted to inconvenience anyone, to the point that he did not want family and friends to attend and travel for a formal service. So with his thoughts in mind, we ask to keep him in your heart and memories and to pay it forward by helping someone else in need. He is survived by his mother, Harriet of Indiana; brother, Jim of upstate NY; sister, Susanne of Indiana; sister in law, Kathy of Long Island NY; two sons Thomas and Steven, his three grandchildren, Isabella, Calvin, and Lexi of Vermont; many loved nieces and nephews; and former wife and very close friend, Deb Henck of Vermont.

In lieu of cards and flowers please consider donating to Bayada Hospice or the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care at DHMC. Please freely share thoughts, memories, condolences, and stories to Tom's family in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhomes.com so Thomas, Steven, Tom's grandchildren, and family can enjoy them.
