Thomas S. Ballou, 72 died unexpectedly Saturday October 22, 2011 at his home.
Tom was born October 23, 1939 in Claremont, NH the son of Leonard and Eugenie (Nolan) Ballou. He was raised in White River Junction and graduated from Hartford High School class of 1957. He attended Boston University until he joined the US Army Intelligence where he served his country in Korea. Upon his return he went to work with his father at Ballou Distributing in White River Junction. In 1966 he married Louise "Dolly" Scelza they lived in White River Junction. In 1976 they purchased the family business and operated it until they divorced in 1990 at which time he moved to the Norton/Newport area and later retired. During his retirement he volunteered for RCT transporting people with medical needs to their appointments, this lead to start Tom's Taxi Service in Newport. In 2002 he was remarried to his longtime companion Linda Lowell, she died in 2003.
Tom was a member of the American Legion and The Newport Elk's Lodge 2155. He enjoyed reading, spending time on the water boating, walking his dog Bear, Tuesday night cribbage at the Legion in Newport and spending time with family and friends.
Tom is survived by his children Kristi Ballou and her husband Paul Stephens of Wilder, Thomas S. Ballou II his wife Anna and their daughter Olivia of White River Junction a brother Robert Ballou of Hartland, VT, two sisters Suzanne Berry of Jacksonville, FL and Nancy Gosselin of Verno Beach, Fl and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Tom's life will be held Saturday, October 29 at the Hotel Coolidge in White River Junction from 2PM to 4PM.
A second celebration will be held in Newport to be announced in the spring.
