Theresa Ann Chesbro (Terry) passed on peacefully in her bed in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 82.
She was born in Jamaica, Queens, New York to Wilbur Barre and Lillian Wellington. Her early years were spent on Long Island where she went to a Catholic school, made life-long friends and, as the eldest, learned how to help out at home. She was often in charge of her younger siblings, Kathleen and Charlotte, and that helped her become the person everyone went to whenever they needed help or sympathy. That role continued when she met and married Al Peavey and they had children of their own. The family settled down in the Hanover area of New Hampshire.
They were happy and busy for many years, raising 4 children and being part of the community, with family picnics at Wilder Dam. Al's photo was among those of local business people on the wall of Lou's Restaurant for years. But he became very ill and his passing was a great loss to everyone.
Terry moved her family to White River Junction and began again, including turning her passion for helping others into a long career in the restaurant, hotel and housing worlds. She was known by all to go above and beyond. For example, during her time working for Vermont's Section 8 housing program she would make personal visits to clients who were struggling. She would assist them with everything from career advice or finding them a computer to the importance of standing up for yourself and enjoying family time.
She took charge of her church's Christmas program, preparing baskets of donated gifts for underprivileged families, and for many years helped ensure that families all over the area enjoyed the blessings of a thoughtful and generous community.
Terry met and married Ed Chesbro when they were in their 50's. They adopted a puppy and enjoyed daily trips to the dog park where a friendly group always gathered to chat and laugh while the dogs played.
Friends and family alike recall Terry's relentless positivity. Whether faced with tragic circumstances or a friend having a bad day, Terry would be found with a twinkle in her eye and an uplifting thought.
In her later years after Ed had passed on, her family encouraged her to move from Vermont to San Antonio, TX where she enjoyed aging gracefully in the home of her daughter Lisa with much extra care from Lisa's husband Andy. She was known to frequent the hairdresser, church, and the neighborhood streets walking her dog, Max.
Throughout her life, Terry maintained her faith in the Catholic church where she attended regularly. Her fondest memories came from celebrating Easter every year, and she always made sure there were Easter baskets and crisp new church clothes for her whole family, even in the leaner years. Easter was a special time for Terry, and she always shared her love of it with everyone around her.
Terry is survived by her son Jody (Donna Peavey), daughter Lisa (Andy Hinson), 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sister Candy (Charlie Couser), and brother Tony (Susie Barre).
Terry was preceded in death by two sons, Allen Peavey and Christopher (Chip) Peavey.
