Obituary

Quechee, VT – Teresa "Terry" Kangas, 60, died peacefully Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at the Community First Medical Center in Chicago, IL.

Terry was born April 4, 1961 in Worcester, MA. She was a daughter of Lawrence and Ann (Adamonis) Kangas. Terry attended the Hartford School District schools in the Special Education Program until she was 18. Upon completing her schooling she received services during her adult years through Healthcare and Rehabilitation Services in Hartford, VT. She was proud of her part time employment at Thermal Dynamics in Lebanon, NH and later enjoyed several volunteer opportunities at DHMC, the VA Medical Center and the Humane Society. Following her mother's death in 2013 she moved to Chicago to live with her sister and family. She thoroughly cherished her time living in her sisters' home and late in 2017 she had an opportunity to move in to St. Mary of Providence where she was able to live in an apartment style home for women with special needs. She thrived as she participated in community day services, activities, outings, developmental training and employment. She continued to have weekend visits to her sisters' home and at the same time was blessed to make many new friends at St. Mary's.

For those who knew Terry, you know she loved many things. One of her favorite things to do was to listen to her beloved John Denver while working on puzzles. Her two favorite movies were The Wizard of Oz and Grease. She fondly referred to her nephew Christopher as John Travolta and to herself as Olivia Newton John. She could watch these movies on a daily basis and get the same joy out of them each and every day. When not watching her favorite movies she loved old classic television: Bonanza, Little House on the Prairie, Wonder Woman, Bewitched and The Partridge Family to name a few. She enjoyed swimming and was fond of bowling and was ecstatic when she rolled a strike. In her youth, Terry participated in Special Olympics and some of her events included; swimming, bowling and various track and field events. She proudly displayed all of her winning medals and ribbons on her walls. Terry also loved horseback riding and she participated for many years in the therapeutic riding program at High Horses in Wilder, VT. She cherished the many vacations and travel adventures she had and would return on a moments notice to her favorite locations like Aruba, Hawaii, Florida, Boston and New York. She was always enthusiastic about her birthday's and Christmas celebrations and loved any gift she got to open. Terry's greatest joy was spending time with her family. Whether it be watching football with her brother-in-law and nephews, going to plays and musicals, cuddling with her cats, dancing or traveling, she enjoyed her life and her time with her family.

Terry is predeceased by her parents Lawrence and Ann Kangas and a brother James Kangas.

She is survived by a sister Laura Marzulli and her husband Dino of Elk Grove Village, IL.; a brother John Kangas of Pembroke, NH and eight nieces and nephews of whom she loved dearly as well as several great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to St. Mary of Providence, a non- profit residential facility for developmentally disabled women. Their mission is to help individuals with developmental disabilities meet life's challenges and reach their highest potential in spiritual, emotional, mental and psychological growth, at the same time promoting their dignity as human beings. The care, devotion and dedication from the direct care staff, nursing staff, professional staff, community day services staff and the Nuns is exemplary. They give unfailingly through a deep calling of devotion and compassionate care.
