Ascutney , VT - Temple W. Hood, died at Cedar Hill Nursing Home in Windsor, Vermont on November 12 2019 after a brief illness.
He was born December 20, 1923 in Hartland, VT to Lee & Lena (Temple) Hood. Temple grew up in Hartland and attended Windsor High School, graduating in 1941. He went on to serve our country overseas in the United States Army during World War II. Temple was a decorated war hero, surviving two beach landings during his service, as well as receiving a Purple Heart for his injuries received in the line of duty. Temple went on to serve in the Army National Guard and Reserves until moving to Tucson, Arizona in 1978.
Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and married Muriel Campbell January 22, 1946 in Windsor, Vermont. Temple worked as an auto machinist at Goodyear Tire & Rubber co. until he retired. After his retirement they moved to Tucson, Arizona where they lived for 30 years before returning to Ascutney, Vermont.
Temple enjoyed the work of finish carpentry, playing guitar, bowling, and was a lifetime member of The American Post #48 in Hartland. He also volunteered for the Hartland Volunteer Fire Department and served for many years at their annual Turkey Suppers. Temple also loved to restore antique cars and shared that passion with his son, Lee. Music was his passion throughout his entire life. He loved to play the piano and guitar, and could even be heard playing during his days at Cedar Hill's Memory Care Facility where he lived with this wife, Muriel for nearly a year. In most recent years after losing his sight, Temple loved to play his guitar to his beloved wife Muriel and feed the birds as part of his daily routine.
Mr. Hood is predeceased by his three siblings, Lee Hood, Dorothy Hull and Mavis (Johnson) Durphey.
He is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Muriel L. Hood of Windsor, Vermont, his daughters, Sandra Guaraldi of W. Lebanon, NH and Nancy Weidman of Ascutney, VT; a son, Lee B. Hood of Ft. Myers, FL; two foster children, Stephen DeMaroney of South Burlington, VT and Janet C. Sanchez of Tucson, AZ; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as several nieces & nephews.
At Temple's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral. A graveside service will be held at the Hartland Village Cemetery in the Spring at the family's convenience.
