Burlington, VT - Sylvia Louise Lane died peacefully at her home of a sudden illness in Burlington, Vermont on September 27 th , 2020.
Sylvia was born on January 30 th , 1952 in Windsor, Vermont the daughter of the late Sidney Austin and Shirley (Sparks) Lane. She graduated from Windsor High School in 1970 and furthered her education with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Burlington College. She also studied at Shelburne Spinners, a wool hand spinning co-operative 1972-1974.
She is survived by her children Jody Michael Lane of Burlington, VT, Naomi Lane Hall and her husband Brett of Brookline, NH, James Austin Lane and his wife Anna Wormer of Yelm, WA; her siblings Dr. Steven E Lane and his wife Susan of Avon, CT, Marie L Berry and her husband Paul of Merrimack, NH, and Vicki A Lane of Montpelier, VT; her four nephews, one niece, and four grand nieces.
In loving memory of Sylvia (Mom)…in her early years, Mom was a passionate artist. Her creations included oil paintings, geometric art, and sculpted pottery pieces, all still cherished by her family today. Her only daughter, Naomi, fondly remembers making pottery with her in the pottery studio at UVM and developed her own love of art from those experiences. She loved going to the movies and would often reminisce of the time she took her eldest son, Jody, to see the first Star Wars movie. She enjoyed bike rides along Lake Champlain with her youngest son James, and he cherishes the times she would take him along to her women's union meetings. She loved her work hand spinning wool at Shelburne Spinners from 1972-1974. She would read history and science fiction for hours on end. She impressed many with her intelligence and ability to recite very specific details from early childhood. She is predeceased by her beloved kitty-cat, Jasper. She developed a love for collecting dolls in her later years. She had a great love for all animals but especially for her predeceased grand-pets; Wesley, Sugar, Venus, & Frankie. She is now at one with mother nature, amongst the trees, a loving spirit watching over all her family. We love you always Mom! Peace be with you.
