Sydney Charles Adams

Windsor, VT - Sydney Charles Adams, 89, passed away peacefully at Hanover Terrace on July 28, 2026, just weeks shy of his 90th birthday. Born in Lerwick, New Brunswick, Canada on August 25, 1936, he was the son of Cecil and Ruth (DeMerchant) Adams.

Syd is survived by his children Robert (Narlene) of Windsor, Ivan (Dawn) of Claremont, NH, and Idella (Dan) of Windsor; his sister Mavis Clark (Terry) of Dedham, ME; his brothers, Richard Adams (Sheila) of Tilley, NB, Stewart Adams (Janice) of Easton, ME, and Donald Adams (late Nancy) of Tilley, NB; his sisters-in-law, Bonnie Adams (late Basil) of Fort Fairfield, ME, and Rose Finnemore (late Reggie) of Tilley, NB; as well as his granddaughter Ashley Adams, grandson Corey Pellerin, and great grandson Aidan Pellerin. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, as well as his brother-in-law Leon Stiles (Rina). Audrey’s children Christina & Patrick, as well as Narlene’s children Natasha, Nolin, & Belisa survive him as well. He will be missed by Dan’s children Denielle & Dan, Jr., as well as their children Cheyenne, Jaida, Annelise, and Schaffer. He will also be missed by all of his children’s friends whom he fed, gave rides to, and watched them work on their cars or process deer in his beloved garage over the years. They were considered family too.

Married on Christmas Eve 1966, Syd and Greta built a life together in Caribou, Maine and later Windsor, Vermont, where Syd worked in several dairies (Guimond Farms, Sewart’s, Cabot Cheese, & Billings Farms) and later at Splitball Bearing (now Timken) and Dorr Woolen. Known for his strong work ethic, humor, and endless projects, Syd was happiest tinkering in his garage, mowing his lawn (especially with his son-in-law Dan), or relaxing in one of his well-placed recliners watching the neighborhood go by. He loved simple pleasures—ice cream, candy of all kinds, backroad rides, watching planes at the Lebanon airport, counting train cars from his kitchen window or recliner—and most of all, gathering family and friends for holiday meals and backyard cookouts.

A man who “didn’t eat to live, but lived to eat,” Syd cherished his family, his neighbors, and the comfort of home. His kindness, humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed. He was predeceased by his wife Greta (Stiles) Adams, his parents, his daughter-in-law Audrey (Ellis) Adams, granddaughter Nicole Pellerin, and great grandson Brandon Macedo-Adams. He was also predeceased by his brothers Reginald Finnemore & Basil Adams, his sisters Marina Christophersen (late Neil) & Verlene Weeks (late Reginald), and his much loved and missed Cocker Spaniel, Hewy.

The family would like to thank the hard-working, kind, and loving staff (past & present) at Hanover Terrace for all of their efforts while caring for Syd. We know he wasn’t always easy to deal with, but he at least kept them laughing. We would also like to thank the Bayada Hospice team. They only worked with Syd for a week, but they are truly wonderful at what they do. We feel his exit from this earth went as peacefully as it did because of all of you.

Services will be at Knight Funeral Home in Windsor on August 6th. Calling hours 5-6pm, with a short service to follow. Burial will be at a later date. Please come as you are. Syd would have told you that you don’t need to dress up on his account. Plaid shirts, Dickie work pants, Red Sox gear, or however you are dressed will be fine!
