Norwich, VT — Susan E. Hardy, 74, of Norwich VT passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, with her family by her side.
Susan was born November 25, 1947 in Washington DC, the daughter of Capt.Robert James Hardy USN, retired, and Elizabeth Elton Hardy. She was predeceased by her parents and older brother Richard Elton Hardy. She is survived by her brother Donald Hardy and wife Dorren Hardy, sister-in-law Mary Anne Hardy, eight nieces and nephews and twenty one great nieces and nephews.
Susan spent most of her childhood and adolescence in Virginia and graduated from high School in 1965. She was a third generation graduate of Mount Holyoke College and went on to earn a Master's Degree in Biology from University of New Hampshire.
Susan's career spanned many interests. She taught for a time at Pingree School and at Thetford Academy. She worked at Kiewit and Tuck Business School at Dartmouth College and went on to work for the US Army Corp of Engineers at CRREL in Hanover NH until she retired. After retiring from the Government Susan was a freelance editor and technical writer. She was active in the community promoting renewable energy.
Susan found her true home in Norwich VT, she loved New England, nature and the out of doors. She flew sail planes at Post Mills, paddled the Connecticut and many other places. She swam, hiked, biked, rode horses, skied, snowshoed, camped and played water volleyball. Her favorite activity was sitting on her dock watching "her river" flow by. These were only a few of the many activities that she had a passion for and encouraged others. She made many Christmas stockings for family.
Susan had many friends from Mount Holyoke, her neighbors, and groups of people from her many activities. Susan wanted to learn to play the fiddle as it was a goal in retirement. She became quite good and enjoyed the company of fellow fiddlers. She enjoyed music and shared that love with family and friends.
Susan is gone but never forgotten.
Services will be private. Contributions may be made to a favorite charity in Susan's name.
