WINDSOR, VT
Stewart A. Danyew, 92, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Thursday morning, May 6 at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in Windsor.
He was born March 31, 1918 in Middlebury, Vermont the son of Hartwell and Carrie (King) Danyew. He received his schooling in Middlebury and graduated from Middlebury High School in 1937. He married Doris Monroe in Middlebury on February 8, 1942. They moved to Windsor in 1942 where he was employed at the former Cone Automatic Machine Tool Company for over twenty years. He later was self employed as a painter and contractor in Windsor for many years.
He was a longtime and active member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor where he proudly served as an usher for thirty two years. He enjoyed collecting antique radios, old Windsor postcards and carnival glass. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family during holidays and on summer trips to Maine. His loving wife of sixty seven years, Doris, passed away on March 6, 2009.
He was also predeceased by one sister Florence Andrews, and two brothers, Howard Danyew and Fletcher Danyew.
Survivors include three daughters, Diane Chamberland and her husband Frank of Mystic, CT, Janet Mead and her husband Dan of Hartland, VT and Marcia Pfenning and her husband Wayne of Hartland, VT, one son, Craig Danyew and his wife Janice of Newtown, CT, one sister, Frances Hall and her husband Robert of Shelburne, VT, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor on Sunday evening, May 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 10 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor. The Rev. Rene Butler, M.S., Pastor will be the Celebrant. Committal services will follow in the St. Francis Cemetery in Windsor. A reception for family and friends will follow at the church in Fellowship Hall.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Activities Fund at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility at 289 County Road, Windsor, VT.
