WINDSOR, VT
Stewart H. Barrows, 94, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Monday evening, July 11 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.
He was born January 17, 1922 in Sudbury, VT the son of Noah and Cora (Marcielle) Barrows. He married Patricia Pierce on April 17, 1944 in Morganfield, KY. He was a veteran of the US Army 825th Tank Destroyer serving during World War II where he participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the landing at Normandy earning the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Croix de Guerre avec Palme Medal. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Windsor and was employed at the former Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He later attended Agricultural School in Mt. Holly, and owned and operated the family farm in Brownsville for many years. He also drove truck and owned and operated a tractor trailer business. As a heavy equipment operator he assisted in the cutting of the trails during the development of the Mt. Ascutney Ski Area, and drove bulldozer during the construction of Interstate 91. He most recently was employed by the Town of Weathersfield as a head mechanic until his retirement in 1984.
Mr. Barrows was a member of the Windsor American Legion Post #25 and a life member of the Weathersfield Rifle Club. He was fond of hunting, shooting, gardening and splitting wood with his son. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his parents, one son, Timothy Barrows in 1960 and one sister, Doris Estey.
Survivors include his wife of seventy two years, Patricia Barrows of Windsor, one son, Jeffrey Barrows of Windsor, two daughters, Deborah Cameron and her husband Barry of The Villages, FL and Lisa Vezina of Windsor, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
At Mr. Barrows request there will be no formal services.
The Knight Funeral Home in Windsor is entrusted with the arrangements.
