Obituary

Windsor, VT – Steven F. Gross, 52, died unexpectedly on Saturday, November 8, 2025. Steve was born on October 28, 1973, in Berlin, VT to Fred W. and Barbara Ann (Johnson) Gross. A short time later, he became an older brother to sister Janet. He was an active kid who enjoyed playing hockey, skiing, snowboarding, and skateboarding, but he really found his niche in the kitchen. After high school he completed a course of study at the New England Culinary Institute. He worked at many high-profile restaurants in Manhattan and Santa Rosa, CA before returning home to Vermont to be closer to family and friends. He worked at numerous restaurants in Burlington and Stowe, and most recently Windsor Station.

Steven's smile brightened every room, but never was it brighter than when he was in the presence of his daughter Kennedy. He was overjoyed to welcome her into the world and was a loving, devoted father, wanting only the best and happiest times for her.

He is survived by his daughter Kennedy Ethel Gross-Swanson of Woodstock, VT; his father and stepmother Fred W. and Jean Gross of Spring Hill, FL; sister Janet Stetson and husband Chris of Cave Creek, AZ; stepsiblings Katrina Hill and husband David of Brownsville, VT and Gregory Balch and wife Laura of Hartland, VT; nieces and nephews Jackson, Jorja, and Jamison; aunt Judy and uncle Chuck Honsinger; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Barbara Ann Gross.

Services will be held in the spring of 2026.

Steve approached his personal addiction struggles with tenacity and optimism; memorial donations to a substance abuse recovery or treatment center in his memory are very much appreciated.

Knight Funeral Home of Windsor, VT has been entrusted with arrangements and online condolences may be expressed at www.knightfuneralhomes.com.
