Obituary

Lebanon, NH

Steven C. Ackerman, 70, a longtime resident of Lebanon, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, February 28th at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon. He was born January 3, 1955 in Paterson, NJ, the son of Franklin "Pete" and Wanda (Smith) Ackerman. He attended school in New Jersey and graduated from High Point Regional High School in 1973. He moved to Vermont with his family when his father acquired the Rutland County Roto Rooter franchise. Steve worked with his father before taking his advice and purchased the Roto Rooter franchises serving Windsor County Vermont and Grantham County New Hampshire in 1979. He proudly owned, operated and was dedicated to his business until August of 2023. He was unfortunately forced to retire due to health issues. Steve enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. He will be remembered as a very kind, knowledgeable and generous person. He took great pride in his perennial gardens, annually transplanting wildflowers, and a variety of ferns. He proudly maintained his planted ginkgo trees. Due to his sincere generosity, professionally, Steve would not charge elderly customers for his services. He also received pleasure in anonymously paying for total strangers meals at several Upper Valley restaurants. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, especially Cape Cod and Boston. He also ventured out to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica and the Caribbean. His favorite vacations were to St. Martin, always staying on the French side. Survivors include one brother, Tom Ackerman, and his wife, Cindy of Topsham, ME, one sister, Judy Meyers of Ogdensburg, NJ, three nephews and three nieces, two longtime friends, Doug Cooley of Windsor and Dan Norman of Boston, and his beloved French Bulldogs, Kip and Beau. At Steve's request there will be no formal service. Following cremation, his wishes will be granted and his remains will be interred on his favorite beach in St. Martin. The Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. is honored to assist with the arrangements. Due to his love of dogs, memorial contributions may be made to the Watson Upper Valley Dog Park, in care of the Hartford Parks and Recreation at 171 Bridge Street, White River Jct., VT 05001. Condolences may be expressed in an online guestbook at knightfuneralhomes.com
