Stephen (Steve) Francis Witkowski born December 5, 1946, to Lorraine (Vaillancourt) and Stanley Witkowski, passed peacefully surrounded by his family on July 26, 2022. Steve lived a full and wonderful life of 75 years, 54 of those years happily married to Sandy, the love of his life.

After graduating from Millbury High School in 1964, Steve enlisted in the US Marine Corp where he served in Vietnam where he worked his way to a Sergeant. The U.S. Marine Corp recognized Steve for his honorable service and dedication he gave to his country with two Purple Hearts. After returning from war, he wed Sandy in Millbury, Massachusetts on February 10, 1968. Steve and Sandy had their first son, Jeffrey, in April of 1969 followed by their second son, Randy, in August 1972. Steve and his family left Millbury in 1982 and moved to Vermont, where they eventually settled in Thetford where Steve, along with some very good friends, built their home. In his free time, Steve could be found tending to his beautiful property, reading a book, hunting, and spending quality time with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his quick wit, wise words, and loving spirit.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Stanley, his mother, Lorraine, and his brother, Donald. He is survived by his wife, Sandy, and two sons: Randy, and his wife Nancy of Thetford and Jeffrey of West Fairlee. He leaves behind three grandchildren: Courtney, and her husband Dave, Stephen, and Rachel. He is also survived by four brothers: Brud, Philip, Billie, and Jimmy. Steve also leaves behind some very dear friends as well.

The family wants to express a thank you to the palliative care team and doctors at the VA Hospital, VNA, and Bayada  Hospice who helped Steve live his last days in the home he built. Steve's wishes were to have no services and a private burial at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Steve's honor to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) at the VA Medical Center in White River Junction, Vermont.
