WINDSOR, VT

Stella I. Ruggles, 89, a longtime Windsor resident, passed away Friday, April 12, 2019 surrounded by loved ones at The Willows of Windsor Assisted Living Home, where she was well loved and cared for by the staff and residents.

Stella was born January 28, 1930 in Eden, VT, the daughter of Clifton R. and Hazel (Thorp) Rowell.  She received her schooling in Eden and attended Peoples Academy in Morrisville.  She married Wilbur M. Ruggles, Jr. on April 27, 1947 in Eden Mills.  Stella later graduated from Nursing School at the former Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, NH with a Licensed Practical Nurse degree.  She was employed at Claremont General Hospital and The Barrows Nursing Home in Cornish, NH.  She later worked as a lab technician at Claremont Flock and most recently, as a cook at The Stoughton House in Windsor until her retirement in 1986.

She was a beloved member of Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Windsor and several area quilting groups.  She was well renowned by friends and family for her "rolls" that she baked for gatherings and special occasions.  Stella also enjoyed sewing, jigsaw puzzles, reading, cooking, word search games and especially spending time with her family and friends.

Her husband passed away on February 21, 1986.

Survivors include one daughter, Pamela Smith and her husband, Walter of Windsor, two sons, Dennis Ruggles and his wife, Mary of North Haverhill, NH and Brent Ruggles and his wife, Constance of Pittston, ME, one brother, Everett Rowell of Morrisville, VT, one sister, Pauline Powers of Claremont, NH, eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and devoted friend, Nanette Pariseau.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Windsor, VT with reception to immediately follow in the Fellowship Hall.  Pastor Paul Voltmer will officiate.  Committal service will be held at a later date in Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor.
