Obituary

Stanley C. Wright, age 91 years, passed away peacefully at home in Windsor in the early morning of Sunday, December 24, 2017, with his family at his side.

Stanley was born on September 28, 1926, to Lewis and Kathryne Wright (née Leslie) of White River Junction, VT, the second oldest of four brothers. A veteran of World War II, Stanley enlisted in the Army Air Corps upon his high school graduation in 1944, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant and receiving his honorable discharge at the conclusion of the great conflict. He served with his brothers Raymond and Harold.

After his service to his country, Stanley returned home and established a career in banking. He began work as a bank teller and went on to receive a degree from the Wisconsin School of Banking, ultimately earning the position of Vice President of the former Interstate Trust Company of White River Junction. During this time, through 10 years of night school, he earned a degree in finance from the University of Vermont.

Stanley then embarked on another career, owning and operating the Wright Floral Shoppe with his wife, Janice, in White River Junction.

In the third act of his work life, Stanley re-entered government service as a rural route carrier for the United States Postal Service, delivering the mail for 20 years, from which he retired in 1998.

Stanley married Alice Fuller in 1949, divorcing in 1977, with whom he had two children, Susan and Karen. Stanley later married Janice Allen in 1983, with whom he had one son, William. Stanley valued his home life and especially loved watching and coaching the sports teams on which his children played. He was a former member of the Rotary Club, a lifetime member of the American Legion, and a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association.

In his spare time, Stanley was previously a member of the choir at the Methodist Church in White River Junction. He enjoyed tending the gardens and flower beds at home, vacationing in Maine, performing in musical theater, spending time with the family dogs and cats, golfing, birdwatching, sunning on the back deck, and watching his favorite New England teams.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Janice, of Windsor; daughter Susan Crowe and husband Glenn of West Lebanon, NH, daughter Karen Wright of White River Junction, and son William Wright and wife Miranda of Calais; brothers-in-law Vern Allen, Douglas Allen and wife Betsy, and Stephen Allen and wife Mary Ellen; sisters-in-law Nancy Biron and Shirley Wright; granddaughters Rachel, Sarah, and Mia and husband Nick; great grandchildren Brody and Scarlett; and several nieces and nephews.

Stanley is predeceased by his parents, Lewis and Kathryne; brothers Raymond, Harold, and Lawrence; former wife Alice Fuller and her brothers, Robert and Reginald Fuller; and brother-in-law Robert Biron.

Calling hours will be held at Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, VT, on Saturday, December 30, 2017, from 2 to 4 PM. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, VT.

Donations may be made in his name to the Methodist Church of White River Junction, or to the animal welfare society of your choosing.
