WILDER, VT — Stanley “Stan” Alfred Wallace, 92, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026. Born at Hitchcock Hospital on June 19,1933, he was the second son of Alfred and Beatrice (Wood) Wallace. He grew up in the Beaver Meadow District of Norwich on a 125 acre farm and attended the one room schoolhouse there until it closed in 1946, graduating from Hanover High School in 1952.

During high school, following in his father's footsteps, he worked as a carpenter for his cousin, Leslie Morse. After high school, he worked in the crushing plant at the Elizabeth Mine in South Strafford for six months saving enough money to buy a new 1953 Ford Crestline. He then traded it in for the 1954 model, which was the fastest car he ever owned. After being drafted as a reservist in the Army, he was stationed in Germany from 1956-1958. He then continued working as a carpenter, first building homes. Starting in 1963, he began a 33 year career at Dartmouth College, 30 years of which as a Master Carpenter in the Hopkins Center Drama Department, building sets and props for 750 productions.

In June of 1955, he married a pretty brown-eyed, freckled gal named Christine Holmes, that he met at a Woody & the Ramblers dance in 1954. They would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary in June. In 1960, Stan and Chris purchased their home in Wilder where they raised their daughters. and where he has resided since that time.

Stan truly enjoyed anything to do with wood from cutting trees in Beaver Meadow with his favorite 1979 Jonsered 621 chainsaw, to using his many tractors to haul the wood for use in home heating. He never completely stopped the wood business, merely scaled back the scope of it. One of his proudest accomplishments was helping to build a home for his daughter and son-in-law in 1984.

During retirement, he and Chris took many enjoyable trips with his brother, Leslie, and wife, Pauline, around the US and abroad but he was always happiest to be back in "my town", Wilder. He was devoted to Chris, spending many hours at the Village in White River Junction where she resides.

Stan was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Leslie, Wendell, and Jeanette. He is survived by his wife, Chris, daughters, Linda (Greg) Moore and Debra (Frank) Walker, three grandchildren, Katrina (Chris) Achilles, Ryan (Emily) Walker, and Kelsey (Andrew) Holmes along with five great-grandchildren, Jayce, Ila, Axel, Felix and Arlo.

There will be no calling hours. It was Stan's wish that a graveside service be limited to family members to be held at the Pine Hill Cemetery, Sharon, Vermont. Memorial contributions can be made to the Beaver Meadow Chapel, c/o Donna Wheeler, Treasurer, 3322 Beaver Meadow Road, Sharon, VT, 05065.

Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction has been entrusted with the arrangements. Condolences may be expressed in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhomes.com.
