Quechee, Vermont - Stanley Vernon Flanders, Sr. 74, died Tuesday night, August 13, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Jct., VT.  He was born March 11, 1945 in Hanover, NH, the son of Clarence and Doris (Adams) Flanders.

Stan grew up in Quechee and graduated from Hartford High School in 1963.  He entered the U.S. Air Force right after graduation and served as a Field Medic for eighteen months in Vietnam. Upon his return to the States he went to work for the Chrysler Plant in Syracuse, NY, where he worked as machine repairman.

He returned to Vermont in 1980 and married Norma Jean Howard.  They built their home on the family homestead in Quechee, VT.   He established and operated Stan's Garage in Quechee for thirty years before transferring it to his son who took over the business in 2014. His family and patrons made the business what it is today.

Stan enjoyed driving around searching for old trucks and restoring antique cars. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in White River Jct., VT, and the American Legion of Hartland, VT.

He was predeceased by his parents and sister Arlene Corliss.

Stan is survived by his wife Norma Flanders of Quechee, VT, three sons, Stanley Flanders, Jr. and his wife Kim of Erieville, NY; Earl Flanders and his wife, Becky of Erieville, NY; Arthur Britt of Quechee, VT, daughters, Mista Hamilton of Canastota, NY, Chiene C. McCracken and her husband William of Canastota, NY; Charlene Samborn of Kawkawlin, Michigan; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Flanders of Enfield, NH, sisters, Jean Smith of Hartland, VT,  Linda Manning of East Thetford, sister-in-laws, Evelyn Luce of North Hartland, VT, and his special sister-in-law, Mary Jane Leonard of Idaho, brother-in-law, Adam Howard of Thetford, VT, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Monday evening from 6-8PM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT.   A graveside service with full military honors will  be held Tuesday, August 20th at 1PM in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, VT.
