UNITY, NH
Siegfried M. Besemer, 89, a former resident of Claremont, passed away Thursday morning, December 15 at the Sullivan County Healthcare Center in Unity where he had resided for the past five years.
He was born February 23, 1927 in Nesconset, Long Island, NY the son of Max and Emma (Otto) Besemer. He was raised in North Troy, VT. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during World War II with the 82nd Airborne Division. Following his honorable discharge he returned to New Hampshire where he was briefly employed at the Claremont Paper Mill. He married Marie Conscetta DePrimo in Claremont in 1948 and they were later divorced. Mr. Besemer most recently was employed at Joy Manufacturing in Claremont for thirty three years until his retirement in 1979.
He was a member of the Claremont VFW and a life member of the Windsor American Legion Post #25. He was also a member of the Ascutney Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He was predeceased by his parents, one sister, Charlotte Spence and his former wife.
Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Daniels and her husband, Hugh of Claremont, and Gloria Johnson of Newport, NH, one son, Allen Besemer of Claremont, one sister, Elfriede Lemieux, currently a resident of Cedar Hill Healthcare in Windsor, five grandchildren, several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Sunday evening, December 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. The funeral service will be held Monday, December 19 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home, with Bishop Mark Ostrom officiating. Burial will be in the North Troy Cemetery in North Troy, VT in the spring.
