Quechee, VT - Shirley Etta Swasey, 81, died unexpectedly Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
She was born February 25, 1933 in Bridgewater, VT the daughter of Allen and Emily (Fairbanks) Severance. Shirley attended the Woodstock schools and went to work at the area woolen mills as a spinner, including Dewey's Mills in Quechee and the Bridgewater Woolen Mills. She was married to Earl L. Swasey July 30, 1955 in Woodstock, VT. She continued for a time working in the mills and as a private house cleaner. She worked at the Woodstock Inn as a chamber maid.
Shirley enjoyed Shopping, going on long drives thru the country, and for the past few years she was dedicated to caring for her ill husband.
She is survived by her husband Earl L. Swasey of Quechee, three sons Larry Swasey of White River Junction, Wayne Swasey of Thetford, VT and Brad Swasey of Orford, NH, and three daughters Carol Duncan of Bethel, VT, Corinne Cutts of Hartland, VT and Kathy Fortune of Bellows Falls, VT, Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a sister Dot Prior, sister-in-law Dot Johnson and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held Saturday March 22 10am – Noon at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction, funeral services at the funeral home will follow immediately. Burial will be in the Prosper Cemetery in Woodstock later in the spring.
