HARTLAND FOUR CORNERS, VT
Shirley G. Robinson, 80, a longtime resident of Hartland Four Corners, passed away Monday, March 4 at the Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center in Springfield.
She was born August 11, 1932 in Newton, MA the daughter of William and Dorothy (Dawson) Gersumky.
Shirley grew up in Newton, MA and graduated from Newton High School in 1950. Following high school she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Smith College in Northampton, MA where she received her Bachelor's of Art Degree in Spanish.
She married Leonard Robinson of Windsor, VT in 1955. They were married for fifty two years. They moved to Hartland Four Corners in 1958 and lived there the rest of their married lives. In addition to her family, Shirley loved Spain and the year she spent there during college. She ran the Swift Water Girl Scout Council prior to her marriage. She loved horses, riding and teaching riding. Shortly after she was married she started teaching school and taught for fifty two years. She never forgot a student and touched many lives.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Robinson, her parents William and Dorothy Gersumky and by one brother, William Gersumky.
Survivors include one daughter, Janet Loven and her husband, Bill of West Lebanon, NH; one son, Charles Robinson and his girlfriend, Lyn Heywood of Eliot, ME; and one granddaughter, Elizabeth of Lafayette, LA. She is also survived by a niece, Lisa and her husband Paul Geberth of Centreville, VA, a niece Sarah Gersumky and her sons, Kyle and Kirk of Pinole, CA and a nephew, Peter Gersumky of Vista, CA and his son, Peter Gersumky, Jr. of Oceanside, CA.
A memorial service will be held at the Universalist Church in Hartland Four Corners, VT on Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 PM. A reception with light refreshments will follow downstairs in the church hall.
