West Hartford, VT- Shirley. W. Clifford died July 15, 2022, at Hanover Terrace in Hanover, NH at the age of 90. She was born February 13, 1932, to Natalie Hill and adopted by Natalie's aunt, Albina (Hill) Currier and husband, Hammond Currier. Raised on the family's farm on South Road in Canaan, NH, Shirley enjoyed the perennial batches of calves and piglets as a child. She also enjoyed school, graduating valedictorian of her high school class. Her interest was in stenography, but because of finances, she was unable to pursue it through higher education.

She married Brooks Cardwell, eventually moving to Reading, MA, where she began a family. She later divorced, moving back to the Upper Valley and marrying Erwin Clifford, Sr. Shirley worked briefly in the law office of Alfred Guarino and later at her husband's Dodge Dealership, Clifford's Garage. Mostly, however, she was a homemaker.

Shirley loved her family and also enjoyed doing for others, especially inviting friends and neighbors to meals. She was a parishioner of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in White River Junction, VT and more recently, of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hanover, NH. Shirley and Erwin made their home in West Hartford, VT for over fifty years before moving to Hanover Terrace in 2016.

She is survived by her son, Brooks Cardwell, Jr. (Nancy) of Oxford, MA, daughter, Pamela Cardwell of Burlington, VT, son, Cameron Clifford (Evelyn) of West Hartford, VT, daughter, Natalie Aimonetti (Jonathan) of Theresa, NY, stepdaughter, Sally Gallant (Jack) of Deland, FL, sisters, Clymena Heath of Enfield, NH and Sue Macomber (Dale) of Burlington, VT, eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a multitude of half-siblings as well as her husband, Erwin Clifford, Sr., stepson, E. James Clifford, Jr., and brother, Harry Rowland Carroll.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hanover Terrace for their compassion and dedication in caring for Shirley as well as Bayada for helping to ease her final weeks with us.

Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT has been entrusted with arrangements. Services will be held at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church in Hanover on Saturday, August 13th, 2022 at 2PM, with a short reception to follow in the Church Hall.
