IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sharon
Otto
July 25, 1950 – November 2, 2023
Canaan, NH— Sharon Otto died Thursday, November 2nd, 2023, at her home in Canaan, surrounded by the love of her family after a period of declining health.
She was born in St. Albans, Vermont on July 25, 1950, the eldest child of Norman & Myrtle (Patch) McDermott. She grew up here in Vermont and graduated from Enosburg Falls High School in 1968. She lived in New Hampshire for several years, but as she aged, she couldn't ignore the urge to move south. She found herself in South Carolina for a couple of years before eventually settling in Florida in the mid 90's where she married Howard Otto. She returned to the Upper Valley to spend her final years closer to her family.
As well as reading and playing cards with the girls, Sharon enjoyed spending her time helping anyone in any way she could. Whether that be supporting the Meals on Wheels program, helping serve food at the local senior centers, or offering support at her local AA meetings. She would not want to be remembered for her burdens, but for her perseverance, and what she had overcome. Sharon recently celebrated six years of sobriety, which she proudly attributed to the kind support received from her friends, family, and fellow AA members.
She was predeceased by her husband of 17 years, Howard Otto in October 2018 and brother, Michael McDermott, in July of 2023. She leaves behind her daughters, Stephanie Hill and her husband, Ron, of Enfield, Aimee Brown and her husband, Jeff, of Medway, Massachusetts. Survivors also include her sister, Julie McDermott of Canaan, and her grandchildren, Evan & Abigail Brown.
A service to celebrate Sharon's life will be organized and announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to support The Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurse & Hospice at www.lakesunapeevna.org/giving/donate.
