Scott Ross Hammond, 63, of Brownsville, Vermont, passed away on May 4, 2026, at his son’s home, surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Scott was born on February 23, 1963, in Windsor, Vermont, to Ronald and Shirley (Sanderson) Hammond. A proud graduate of Windsor High School, Class of 1981, he went on to serve his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, Scott dedicated more than 40 years to the United States Postal Service, including over 25 years as the Postmaster in Brownsville, where he became a familiar and trusted presence in the community.

Scott was, above all, a family man. He cherished time spent outdoors, hunting, hiking with Marissa, snowmobiling with Ryan, and looking through all Molly's photos she captured. His heart was always rooted at the family farm on Hammond Hill Road in West Windsor, where he spent most of his life and created countless memories. He was known for his generosity and willingness to do anything for those he loved. A longtime member of the American Legion and the Elks, and West Windsor Moonlighter’s, Scott was also known for sharing financial advice—whether requested or not—and for his lively spirit. He was a terrific dancer who rarely missed a chance to take the floor, often pulling others along to join in the fun.

Scott is survived by his siblings, Charlene Steffen (Chet), Krista Johnson, Vicky Maheu, Les Hammond (Cindy), and Deena West; his children, Marissa Becker (partner Jamie), Ryan Hammond (Alyssa Hammond), and Molly Hammond; and his beloved grandchildren, Isaac Becker, Ethan Dedrick, Shay Hammond, and Griffith Hammond. His partner, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Ronald and Shirley Hammond; his eldest son, Jacob Hammond; and his brothers-in-law, Gordy Johnson and Edward West.

A celebration of Scott’s life will be held on June 14, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Brownsville Town Hall. Knight Funeral Home in Windsor assisted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhomes@msn.com
