Obituary

Brownsville, VT – Scott Brohinsky, 72, passed away unexpectedly at his home on August 18, 2022.

Scott was born October 8, 1949, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Herschel and Peggy (Juni) Brohinsky. He excelled at school graduating from Trumbull High School in 1968, completing his undergraduate degree at Boston University, and eventually earning his JD from the University of Connecticut. Scott married Candace J. Cunningham on September 6, 1980, in Simsbury, CT. They lived in Simsbury for over 30 years, raising their two children – Seth and Zak. Scott began his career at the Connecticut Department of Education before leaving to work at the University of Connecticut (UConn) where he spent most of his professional career. The deep and abiding friendships built at UConn over close to 30 years sustained him throughout his professional life and into retirement. Scott and his family enjoyed spending time at their second home in West Fairlee, VT. Following Scott's retirement in 2010, the draw of a life with Candee in Vermont became clear. In 2017, Scott and Candee bought their forever home in Brownsville. The way their house did in West Fairlee, their beautiful home in Brownsville immediately became a gathering place for family and friends. While Scott and Candee were experienced world travelers, they were most at home, together, in Brownsville. The mountains, meadows, maple trees, family and friends that visited, were his heaven on Earth. On any given day, Scott, Candee and their dog Rika, could be seen walking the gravel roads, riding their bicycles, playing tennis in the backyard, or hiking the local trails throughout the seasons…for Scott, sometimes all in a single day. He lived every day to the fullest.

Scott and Candee met playing tennis, which became, and still is, a fundamental part of their and their children's lives. Many fond memories last of all four playing doubles together. Scott was a member of the Norwich Racquet Club and loved to play tennis, paddle tennis, ping pong…any game with a racket!  He delighted in being outdoors cycling, hiking, snow shoeing, and cross-country skiing. While indoors, he enjoyed relaxing and playing cards or completing crossword puzzles with his family. Through all his personal and professional achievements, his greatest pride were his two sons. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Scott is survived by his wife of 42 years, Candee Brohinsky; two sons Seth Brohinsky, and his wife Jenn of Rockport, MA, and Zak Brohinsky and his wife Jess of Providence, RI; three beautiful grandchildren Mia (4), Ben (2), and Hazen (1) and two brothers, Jeff Brohinsky of West Hartford, CT and Gregg Brohinsky of Manchester, CT.

A celebration of Scott's life will be held later.
