IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sandra Dutcher
Moxley
June 10, 1946 – April 30, 2018
WINDSOR, VT
Sandra Dutcher Moxley, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Monday morning, April 30 at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care at Dartmouth Hitchcock in Lebanon, NH. She was born June 10, 1946, in Binghamton, NY. She was adopted by Perry and Genevieve Dutcher shortly after that.
Sandy is a graduate of Susquehanna Valley High School in Conklin, NY. She continued her education and graduated from Charles S. Wilson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Johnson City, NY, in 1967 with a nursing diploma.
Sandy put her nursing diploma to use serving most of her life in an impressive ministry of healthcare. She began serving at Charles S. Wilson Memorial Hospital from 1967 until 1970. Sandy worked in the surgery ward as a charge nurse who supervised other auxiliary personnel.
In 1970, she brought her nursing skills to the USAF. She worked at Ehrling Bergquist Regional Hospital at Offut, AFB, Omaha, NE, in the pediatrics department until she was honorably discharged, at the rank of Captain, in 1972.
After the Air Force, Sandy moved to Rochester, MN, to work at the pediatrics department of the Mayo Clinic. While there, she supervised three teams of 6-7 personnel on each team overseeing a floor consisting of 53 beds.
After moving back to the State of New York in 1973, she was employed as head nurse of pediatrics at Olmstead Community Hospital. She wrote and updated nursing procedures and taught the nursing staff on pediatric care.
In 1974, Sandy decided to attend Word of Life Bible Institute in Schroon Lake, NY. While taking courses, Sandy paid her way to the school by working as a school nurse on the campus and serving in the snow and summer camping program.
It was while she was attending Word of Life that Sandra Dutcher met Steven Moxley and the two fell in love. After graduating from the school in the class of 1975, Steve and Sandy were married at Conklin Baptist Church in Conklin, New York, on October 10, 1975.
Shortly after being married, Steve and Sandy moved to Windsor, VT. While living in Windsor, Sandy continued in her nursing career serving as an assistant head nurse at Mt. Ascutney Hospital from 1976 until 1985.
About her healthcare career, Sandy said, "In my nursing care, I sense a real need to treat the whole person – body, mind, and spirit, because we are integrated beings and what affects one affects the others." She prioritized on providing individualized and good quality care.
In 1979, Steve and Sandy adopted a son, Matthew, who they love dearly. He is a big part of their life.
Sandy loved to laugh and enjoy life. She loved playing board games with her family and friends. Along with playing the regular household games such as Yahtzee, Uno, Sorry, and Skip-Bo, Sandy was known to have lost a tooth or two playing the game, "Redneck Life." In addition to games, Sandy enjoyed the outdoors and often went camping and fishing. She also loved caring for her indoor and outdoor plants.
If Sandy were asked, what is the most important part of your life, she would reply that it was her faith. Sandy put her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She not only cared about people's health, but she cared that people know Jesus, the "Great Physician." Her personal relationship with Her Savior was apparent in her character and the way she loved others.
Sandy believed in being a member of a local church. She and her husband Steve are members of Christ Community Church of Plainfield, NH. To Sandy, the church was her family. And, to all who knew Sandy, the family relationship was genuine. She actively participated in the church and served for many years to lead the overseas missions team. Her humble and gentle spirit will be sorely missed by all.
In 1994, Steve and Sandy became members of the Christian Motorcyclists Association, and served in the Windsor, VT chapter, the "Holy Rollers." They have actively served and remain as members. They count many in the association as friends.
Sandy passed away in the presence of her husband Steve and son Matt. She passed away peacefully and without pain, just as she wished she would. The previous day, Sunday, Sandy joyfully and peacefully fellowshipped in the presence of many of the people from her church who came to express their love, say final words, pray, and sing a few favorite hymns.
Sandy is predeceased by her parents, and her brother Vincent. She is survived by her husband Steven Moxley, and her son, Matthew Moxley, both of Windsor, VT and by one niece and one nephew.
