Sandra J. Guarino
Wilder, Vermont- Sandra J. Guarino, 74, died Monday, February 20, 2012 at the Brookside Nursing Home in Wilder after a courageous battle with cancer.
Sandra was born April 13, 1937 in New York, NY the daughter of Joseph and Anita (Falzarano) Caruci. She grew up in New York where she was the All City Figure Skating Champion. Sandra spent many of her summers in Wilder, moving here for her senior year of high school. Sandra graduated from Hartford High School with honors, class of 1954. She went on to attend Johnson State College for a time. Sandra married Raffaele Guarino, on September 1, 1962 in White River Junction, and stayed at home to raise their family. When their children were older, she served as the Chairman of the Hartford School Board and later as the President of the Vermont School Board Association. Sandra was passionate about books and worked as the librarian at the Wilder Library. For the last several years, Sandra worked at Main St. Furniture for her cousin, Elizabeth Falzarano and husband, Phil Edson. Sandra loved working in her flower gardens, watching CSPAN, and was a true fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Celtics.
Sandra is survived by her beloved husband Raffaele Guarino of Wilder; four children Peter Guarino and friend Cindy of Quechee, VT, Clorinda Nothstein and husband, Joe, of Lake Forest, CA, Raffaele Guarino and Rob Grimaldi of Honolulu, HI and Armand Guarino and wife, Rahel of Herndon, VA; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A private funeral service will be held, per Sandra's wishes. Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction, VT has been entrusted with arrangements.
