Wilder, VT-Sandra J. Woodard Leonard Geratowski, 67, died Friday, August 31, 2012 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH with two of her daughters and a close family friend by her side.
Sandy was born November 11, 1944 in Newport, VT, a daughter of John and Ernestine (Baraw) Woodard. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Foster "Buster" Woodard and attended schools in the Newport area until graduating from Newport Center Highschool in 1962. She then went on to obtain her beautician's license in Burlington, VT before settling in the Lebanon area in 1965.
Sandy married her first husband, Albert "Bert" Leonard in 1967. Together they had their daughter, Pam and raised her in Lebanon, NH.
Sandy later moved to Wilder, VT and married Steve Geratowski in 1995. Together they raised his two daughters, Annie and Mary Kate. Steve passed away in 2010.
Sandy worked in several hair salons in Lebanon before opening her own salon in 1980. She retired from hairdressing in 1986 and went on to work at Bond Optics and then the Red Cross Pharmacy before retiring all together to become a homemaker in 1994.
Over the years, Sandy developed numerous hobbies. She loved flowers and cultivated an extensive perennial garden. She also loved carpentry and enjoyed assisting her husband Steve with numerous projects, including adding a new deck to their home. However, her greatest interest was music. Sandy loved to sing and play her guitar. She participated in different vocal groups and choirs over the years and also sang in a country band in the late 1980's.
Sandy loved her family and friends, of which there are many. She loved to make people happy and would entertain them with her great sense of humor or a song. She provided care and comfort to many throughout her life through her sense of humor, her faith and her great capacity to love.
Sandy is survived by her daughters, Pamela Leonard of Claremont, NH; Anne Geratowski of Hinesburg, VT; and Mary Kate Geratowski of Williamsburg, VA; as well as her brothers, Richard Woodard of Waban, MA; Darrell Woodard of Detroit, MI; Wayne Woodard and Frank Baraw, both of Newport Center, VT and her sisters, Phe Deering of Rochester, VT; Marilyn "Dolly" Corkins and Marjorie Benjamin, both of Newport, VT. She also has many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews whom she loved and of whom she was very proud. Sandy was predeceased by her father, stepfather, mother, and two sisters, Carolyn Woodard Blake and Patricia Woodard Matten.
Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT on Monday, September 3rd 2-4 & 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony's church on Tuesday, September 4th at 11am.)
