Obituary

Hartford, Vermont- Sally Ann (Sharrock) Moynihan, 80, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on July 30, 2012. Born to Louis Lee Sharrock and Estella Hayes Sharrock in Portsmouth, NH, on March 8, 1932. Sally was a North Country girl, spending her adolescent years in Colton, NY, where her grandparents, Michael Hayes and Harriet Salls, operated the Island House (Colton Hotel). After graduating from high school in 1950, Sally worked for the local telephone company. She married and traveled to the South where she gave birth to her first three children while her husband, Dr. Peter O. Garner, completed his medical degree. The family then returned to New York State. Her husband established a medical practice in Cobleskill, NY, where her fourth child was born. After her divorce, Sally moved to Potsdam, NY, to raise and support her children. It was there that she met Cornelius "Connie" G. Moynihan, a talented photographer for Niagara Mohawk, whom she married in 1973. They moved to the Syracuse area where Sally raised her youngest and became a dedicated office manager for the late neurosurgeon, Dr. Dominick C. Adornato. For the last 14 years Sally has lived in Hartford, VT near her son Stephen and his family. Sally regarded her four children as her greatest accomplishment, having successfully raised them while a single working mother. Very creative and artistic, her passions were all forms of stitchery and collecting antiques, especially glassware. Sally loved animals, always having pets and taking in strays. She also adored watching birds and other wildlife. Sally lived a good life and will be missed and affectionately remembered by her family and friends.
Sally was predeceased by her husbands, her sister Shirley Phillips, and her niece Pamela Phillips. Her survivors include her children: Geneva Garner (Stan Reynolds), Deborah Garner (Michael Mooney), Stephen Garner (Lis Flannery), and Peter Garner (Monica Brown); her grandchildren: Jane, Kara, Meghan, Hayden, and Alice; her nephew Richard Phillips; her sister-in-law Laurine "Dusty" Hawley Garner; her niece Gretchen Williams; and many other relations.
